Determining the Sex of your Rabbit
The first thing that can go wrong with rabbit reproduction is having 2 bucks or 2 does instead of 1 of each. In determining the sex, it's easy to make a mistake, especially if you looked when they were young. The younger the rabbit, the harder it is to figure out which is which. If they're less than 2 months old, it verges on impossible. After that age the males get a penis you can see, and maybe testicles too. Once the buck is fully grown his testicles will be easy to see. To sex a rabbit, hold it on its back with one hand. The holding hand also has hold of its tail and is keeping the tail out of the way of where you want to look. With your other hand's thumb and first finger press down firmly but gently around the sex organ. With practice you'll learn the difference between male and female. If it's a buck, the sex organ looks more round; the female's looks more like a slit. As the male gets older, its penis will protrude and be plainly visible when you press and you'll see his testicles. Hope that this has proved useful - Philip Davey
