Our parking experiance on a visit to Kew Gardens

After a long and tiresome two hour journey from Bromley (in Kent) we eventually arrived at "Kew" about midday. We saw the signs for the Gardens, found a parking space, parked, walked away - and then noticed further down the raod small signs that said "permit holders only" - these were NOT large signs on display for all to see, but small insignificant signs that in my opinion, could be easily (intentionally ?) missed. So we went back to the car and headed for the car park .........

Where is the car park. Well its easily missed. Outside the entrance is a small narrow lane (heaven knows what its like in peak hours) and at the end of this a park and display car park. The machine accepts most coins and after putting in £2.00 I seemed to have 3 hours parking - the ticket machine said "valid until 3:00" ..........

The someone pointed out a small printed area on the machine which said "parking - £5.00 per day, or part thereof".

We were both debating which version to accept as correct when we were joined by a third person who was about to pay for the parking - we now had THREE confused motorists debating exactly how much it was to park !!

Unable to agree, we decided the best thing was to pay the more expensive £5.00 as were all agreed a parking attendant was certain to turn up once we had vacated the car park (were we being watched !!) and that the fine would be a hefty one, surely involving clamps etc to ensure payment.
So, when travelling to Kew Gardens be prepared to be completly confused if trying to find out simply "how much is it to park ?".
However, after that a great day was had by all.
